Solectria Corp. (Wilmington, MA) announced that two of its electric cars and a hybrid car powered by Solectria components each earned first place in its respective category at the 13th annual NESEA Tour de Sol Great American Green Transportation Festival.
Capturing first place in the production division for battery-electric vehicles was a Solectria Force electric sedan equipped with Texaco Ovonic nickel metal-hydride batteries, entered by the Ethel Walker School (Simsbury, CT). A modified Solectria electric sedan equipped with lead-acid batteries, entered by Team New England, captured first prize in the prototype division for the battery-electric vehicles. Lastly, Team Paradigm of the University of Wisconsim-Madison, driving a Ford Mercury Sable retrofitted with a Solectria motor and controller in a bio-diesel parallel hybrid-drive system, took first place in the prototype division for hybrid-electric vehicles.
