Smart Power Modules Claim Industry-Leading Efficiency
Worldwide, small electric motors – like those in dishwashers, air conditioners and fans – account for up to 50 percent of total global energy consumption. With growing consumer demand for these appliances, power management solutions that maximize efficiency are a necessity for a greener and better future. To help designers meet these needs, Fairchild Semiconductor Corp. developed the FSB70xxx series of advanced Motion SPM® 7 modules. Targeting small power motors under 100 W, these modules claim industry-leading light-load efficiency (up to 44% better than the leading competition), robust on-module protection, and superior thermal efficiency up to 12% better from junction to case. Additionally, the FSB70xxx series integrates an optimized gate driver for the built-in MOSFETs (using FRFET® technology) to minimize EMI and losses, while also providing multiple on-module protection features including under-voltage lockouts, thermal monitoring, fault reporting and interlock function.
