Siliconix Launches Its Si9182BH and Si9183BT LDO Regulators

August 20, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Siliconix Inc. (Malvern, PA), a subsidiary of Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (Malvern, PA), has started shipping two LDO voltage regulators for power conversion in cellular phones and PDAs, plus a suite of TrenchFET power MOSFETs aimed at 42V bus automotive applications. The Vishay Siliconix Si9182BH and Si9183BT LDO voltage regulators are designed to provide power to signal processing circuitry, with LDO performance and fast transient response across all line and load conditions.

Both ICs are offered in seven low-noise versions with fixed-output voltages from 1.8V to 5V. Adjustable output versions are also available. The devices can be used with lower-cost ceramic capacitors on the output and input, eliminating tantalum capacitors as a design requirement.

In addition to the LDO voltage regulators, Siliconix has released a series of TrenchFET power MOSFETs designed to support the upcoming transition to a 42V bus in automobiles. The TrenchFETs will be used to drive motors and replace relays in 42V bus cars, while the most common application in commercial diesel-vehicle applications will be fuel-injector drivers. The 100V and 75V options provide alternatives for designers, depending on whether maximum breakdown voltage or minimal on-resistance is the key design factor.
