Semtech Unveils the New LC05-6 Surge-Protection Device

January 11, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Semtech Corp. (Newbury Park, CA) has unveiled the LC05-6, a new surge-protection device based on the company's transient voltage-suppression diode technology. The company says that the new integrated device is intended to provide secondary-surge protection for two signal pairs in telecom and datacom systems, and that it exceeds the performance metrics established by industry standards.

“Voltage suppression is more critical in today's high-performance communications systems than ever before," stated Tom Dugan, director of marketing for protection products at Semtech. “That's because modern transceivers are manufactured using state-of-the-art fabrication processes that employ much finer geometries than in the past, making them more susceptible to damage from voltage transients than older parts."

The Semtech LC05-6 is available immediately in limited volumes, with production volumes now ramping. In quantities of 1,000 units or more, the LC05-6 is priced at $2.47 each, in standard tape and reel packaging. The device is packaged in a standard JEDEC SO-16 package.
