Semtech Intros SMF05 and SMF12 TVS Devices

May 09, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Semtech Corp. (Newbury Park,CA) announced two new families of highly integrated TVS devices that are designed to exceed the overvoltage protection and lower space requirements of sensitive CMOS technology used in portable applications. According to Semtech, the new SMF05 and SMF12 are the first TVS devices to integrate EDS protection for four low-power data or I/O ports into a single 2.4mm x 2.2mm SC-70 package. The new STF701, the initial member of the Semtech STFxxx family, is the first device to integrate two-line ESD protection and electromagnetic/radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI) filtering into the tiny SC-70 package. Semtech's SMFxx family eliminates the need for four discrete protection components, freeing more than 40 percent of board space formerly taken up with separate devices. All of the new devices are housed in the SC-70 5-lead package. The SMF05 and SMF12 TVS arrays are priced at $0.32 each in 10,000-unit quantities. The STF701 is priced at $0.31 each in 10,000-piece quantities.
