Semtech Announces New SC1462 Charge Pump Doubler

June 18, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Semtech Corp. (Newbury Park, CA), a power-management IC provider, has announced the availability of the SC1462 high-current charge pump doubler. With a low start-up voltage of 1.65V, the SC1462 is suited for mobile applications requiring a single lithium-ion battery or two NiMH batteries. The SC1462 provides up to a doubled output from a 1.65V to 5.5V input supply with an easily achievable output current in excess of 50mA.

The SC1462 is designed for portable, battery-operated applications, including no-load supply current (190uA typical), typical efficiencies greater than 90 percent over the full-load range and a low-power shutdown control with less than 1uA consumed in shutdown. The SC1462 eliminates the inductor typically used in boost solutions and helps designers reduce design complexity, required board space and cost, while also eliminating a source of EMI noise emission.

Packaged in a small, surface-mount, six-lead SOT-23 package, the SC1462 requires only two tiny bypass capacitors and one bucket capacitor. Total board space required for a typical application, including external components, is less than 0.045" square. The SC1462 is priced at $0.72 in 1,000-unit quantities.
