Semtech Announces Its SC1402 Power Supply Controller

August 13, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Semtech Corp. (Newbury Park, CA) announced the availability of the SC1402 multi-output, low noise, power supply controller. According to Semtech, the SC1402 provides a simple, space-saving solution by integrating into a single IC, all the control and drive circuitry needed to generate several of the voltages required by notebook PCs, Internet appliances and other hand-held devices.

The SC1402 is designed to operate from a 6V to 30V input supply, making it suitable for notebook computer operation from either the battery or ac adapter. Two on-board, high-efficiency, synchronous-power supply controllers are preset to generate 3.3V and 5V, or they can be adjusted with a simple resistor divider to provide any voltage between 2.5V and 5.5V. Each synchronous controller includes drivers capable of supplying 1A of gate drive for switching the latest high-speed MOSFETs. An on-board 12V/120mA linear regulator with built-in over-current is also included.

Pricing for the SC1402, in SSOP-28 packaging, is $3.95 in quantities of 1,000.
