Schurter Presents IEC Outlets for Power Supplies

September 23, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Schurter Inc. (Petaluma, CA) announced the new IEC outlets for the hot-swap of power supplies. The IEC outlets eliminate the need for a detachable line cord by providing for easy power connection and disconnection of power supplies to a backplane.

Designed for the quick change of power supplies in server equipment, the connector provides for swapping out supplies when the power is on. The outlet is easily screwed in or snap-mounted. Snap-in mounting is the standard for outlets fitting panels of 1.5mm. Snap arms can be set further back to accomodate the thicker panel. Available screw-mounting types have 4mm to 8mm solder-/quick-connect terminals or 6.3mm quick-connect terminals.

The outlet is an IEC mains with 10A/15A with contacts that sit approximately 22mm behind the face of the panel. The outlet is cUL and VDE approved. It conforms with IEC/EN 60320-2-2/F Class I and II, with or without ground.

Standard versions are deliverable from stock in quantities up to 1,000 pieces; other versions are available upon request. Pricing starts at under $1.00 for 100 pieces.
