Schurter Announces FST/SPT Series of SMD Fuses

May 08, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Schurter Inc. (Petaluma, CA) announced the FST/SPT Series of SMD 5mm x 20mm fuses. This series features gold-plated end-caps to allow for direct solder onto the printed circuit board (PCB). Schurter claims that this eliminates the need for conventional axial leads.

The FST/SPT Series includes the same slow reaction time as the standard time-lag 5mm x 20mm fuses, in accordance with IEC 127-2. The FTT offers a super time-lag opening and has a current range of up to 20A at 250Vac. The SPT type offers a high-breaking capacity of up to 1,500A at 250Vac. Reflow and wave solderability for the SMD 5mm x 20mm fuses is 235 degrees C for two seconds. Soldering heat resistance is 260 degrees C for 10 seconds, in accordance with IEC 60068-2-58 test Td.

Schurter reports that cUL-us and VDE approvals are pending for the new series. The fuses are available taped in 2,000 pieces per reel. Pricing starts at $0.36 for 100 pieces.
