RYC8000 family of power distribution switches

November 21, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Raychem Circuit Protection (Menlo Park, CA) recently announced the RYC8000 family of power distribution switches for universal serial bus (USB) applications. The switches signal the controller when faults such as over-current, over-temperature, under-voltage lock-out (UVLO) or over-voltage lock-out (OLVO) are detected. The RYC8000 Series can integrate up to four independent high-side switches and each switch is fully protected against short circuits via a thermal shutdown circuit and internal current limiting. A flag output indicates that a fault condition exists, which a local USB controller can use to shutdown the offending channel without affecting the operation of other channels. The switches will be available in 8-pin, 16-pin, TSSOP and DIP packages. In quantities of 1,000, pricing for the RYC products will be $0.45 per port. Samples are currently available.
