ROAL Electronics Debuts RHPS224 Series Power Supplies

September 06, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

ROAL Electronics USA Inc. (Los Angeles, CA), a designer of ac-dc and dc-dc switch-mode power supplies, debuted its high-efficiency, high power density, fully enclosed and self-cooled power supply, the RHPS224, which is suitable for information technology, networking, telecommunications, and industrial applications using distributed power architecture. The new digitally controlled RHPS224 power supply series can be used in 1U or 2U height configurations, and fits in a standard 19-in rack-mount power assembly.

The RHPS224 measures 1.57 in x 3.38 in x 13.3 in, and is available with a rating of 1,200 W of maximum output power for the 12 Vdc version, and 1,500 W for the 48 Vdc version. The whole power rack assembly provides either 4,800 W in a 1U height configuration or 9,600 W in a 2U height configuration for the 12 V output, a power density of 17 W/in³ and efficiency of >87 percent; or 6,000 W in a 1U height configuration or 12,000 W in a 2U height configuration for the 48 V output version, a power density of 21 W/in³ and a typical efficiency of >90 percent. Both versions do not require a minimum output load, and both provide 12 Vdc or 5 Vdc standby output power.

The RHPS224 Series offers a wide-input ac voltage range of 90 V to 264 V with active power-factor correction (digital multi-phase control technique) up to 0.99 at full load, nominal input voltage; full active current-sharing capabilities; internal OR-ing MOSFETs; hot-swappable, N+1 redundancy; an operating temperature range from -15 °C to +50 °C at full load; thermal derating between 50 °C and 70 °C; active power limiting; self-recovered short-circuit protection; over-temperature protection; temperature derating; and thermal shutdown with self-recovery. The digital I2C Bus or CAN-Bus serial protocol communications system provides output voltage and current monitoring with digital output-voltage adjustment, remote on-off, ac fail, ac-ok and dc-ok, power-good signals, and temperature monitoring.

Compliant to UL/cUL, CE, UL1950, CSA C22.2 No950, and EN60950, with full EMC compliance and meeting EN61000-3-2 and all other EMC regulations (including the EN55022 Level B and FCC Class B for conducted and radiated emission), the RoHS-compliant RHPS224 Series is available now.
