QUANTUM in Technology Talks with Japanese Carmakers

April 03, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

QUANTUM Technologies WorldWide Inc. (Irvine, CA), a General Motors Corp. (Detroit, MI) affiliate, has reportedly been negotiating with Japanese carmakers about the transfer of its hydrogen tank technology, which could begin as early as next year, according to unidentified sources. The GM affiliate has been pitching its expertise in this key component of fuel cell vehicles to Toyota Motor Corp., Nissan Motor Co., Honda Motor Co. and Mazda Motor Corp., as well as their autoparts affiliates.

In addition, Quantum Technologies is talking with Shanghai GM about the transfer of hydrogen tank technology. These are the first efforts by Quantum Technologies to transfer its expertise in hydrogen tanks. If successful, the transfer of the technology will likely encourage Japanese automakers to put more effort into making fuel cell vehicles.
