Powerex Introduces New K Series 1,700V IGBTs

May 14, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Powerex Inc.'s (Youngwood, PA) new family of 1,700V IGBTs incorporates a newly designed planar chip that is fine-line processed. The designated K Series chip uses a buffer layer with local lifetime control to optimize on-state and switching losses. This allows the devices to be used at operating frequencies of 15kHz with 30 percent to 50 percent lower total power loss than competitive devices currently being marketed.

The devices have been targeted for use in inverters operating for 69Vac RMS power lines, and are expected to find significant use in high-voltage specialty power supplies. The series is now available with sample prices ranging from $130 to $348. Delivery time varies on quantities.
