Powerex Introduces Hybrid Integrated Circuit For IGBT Modules

January 29, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Powerex has introduced a new hybrid integrated circuit designed for driving IGBT modules. The VLA500K-01R is a fully isolated gate drive circuit consisting of an optimally isolated gate drive amplifier and an isolated dc to dc converter. The gate driver provides an over-current protection function based on desaturation detection.

The VLA500K-01R features include: built-in isolated dc to dc converter for gate drive; an SIP outline allows more space on the mounting area; built-in short-circuit protection (with fault output); variable fall time on short-circuit protection; electrical isolation voltage between input and output (4000Vrms for 1 minute); and TTL compatible input. This device was designed to drive IGBT modules for 690V class industrial inverters. It is recommended for 1700V IGBT modules up to 1000A.

Samples of VLA500K-01R are available from stock to 8 weeks. Sample pricing in quantities of 100 is $32.77.
