Powerex Announces the KA Series of 1,700V IGBTs

June 21, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Powerex (Youngwood, PA) has announced a new family of 1,700V IGBTs. The new family is called the KA Series and incorporates a newly designed planar chip that is fine-line processed. The chip uses a buffer layer with local lifetime control to optimize on-state and switching losses. The company claims that this allows the device to be used at operating frequencies of 14kHz with 30- to 50-percent lower total power loss than competitive devices.

The KA Series consists of all dual modules with current ratings of 100A, 150A, 200A, 300A and 400A. All devices incorporate a fast- and soft-recovery diode. The series was designed for use in inverters operating for 690Vac rms power lines, and is also expected to find use in high-voltage specialty power supplies.

The complete KA Series is currently available for sampling from stock to eight weeks. Mass production quantities are available within 8 to 12 weeks. Sample pricing ranges from $118 to $454.
