Powercube Expands TD Series for Telecom By Adding 48V Output Capabilities

July 06, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Powercube (Chatsworth, CA) has expanded its TD Series of dc/dc converters adding 48V output capabilities to half-brick 30W, 50W, 75W, 100W and 150W units and full-brick 250W and 300W devices. These new 48V converters meet emerging standards for distributed and board mounting power systems in telecom and server applications, according to Powercube. Powercube claims that the TD Series converters are pin-for-pin, functionally and mounting compatible with Lucent JC/JW half-brick and FC/FW full-brick converters, while also offering additional features, including over-temperature thermal shutdown, over-voltage protection, power good signal output, built-in current monitor, case ground pin and positive or negative logic shutdown (remote on-off). A broader range of inputs is also available, adding 150V and 300V capability to the 24V and 48V inputs offered by Lucent devices, according to Powercube. Total input, output and baseplate isolation enables rugged operation. A typical 30W TD Series dc/dc converter with a 48V output costs $65 in 100 quantities. Samples for all power, input and output levels are available off-the-shelf, with volume orders currently 30 days ARO.
