Power-One Announces Entry Into Commercial Renewable Energy Inverter Market

September 26, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One, Inc. announced the introduction of the Aurora® PVI-Central Series of commercial-grade photovoltaic inverters. These series of products connect to the ac grid and employ subracks in a modular, scalable architecture that facilitates application-optimized inverter solutions that range from 50 to 300kW.

The products are well suited for the large-commercial market – apartment buildings and light-industrial facilities. According to the company, the commercial market is approximately 30% of the total $750 million solar inverter market, with the entire market expected to grow at more than 20% per year.

The first product being introduced in the series is a 100kW unit. This flexible design enables configuring 100kW subracks to provide either two functionally-independent 50kW outputs, or a single 100kW power output. High conversion efficiencies (up to 96.9%), combined with high-speed MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) channels, optimize energy harvesting over a wide spectrum of operating conditions.

Bill Yeates, Power-One’s CEO, commented, "The introduction of the Aurora® PVI-Central marks Power-One’s entry into the commercial market and is a natural transition for us as we continue to provide our customers with innovative and scalable technology in the Solar/Photovoltaic (PV) marketplace. Our PVI-Central Series reduces on-site configuring and testing and provides cost-effective solutions with smaller footprints and increased reliability."

Yeates continued, "The development of the PV commercial product line addresses the rapidly-growing global demand for environmentally-friendly power sources. These higher-wattage, commercial-grade inverters are excellent additions to our Aurora® family and further demonstrate Power-One’s commitment to introduce industry-leading products addressing the renewable energy market in support of improving the environment."
