Power Management Software aligns Virtualization and Converged Infrastructures

March 06, 2014 by Jeff Shepard

Eaton Corp. today announced the global launch of its Intelligent Power Manager™ software version 1.4, building on a five-year history of success in developing industry-leading power management solutions that are compatible with most virtualization platforms. Intelligent Power Manager software version 1.4 strengthens Eaton's collaboration with Cisco Unified Computing System™ server management, which allows information technology (IT) managers to set power consumption limits to each server for extended battery runtime during a power event.

Further advancing flexibility for small-to-medium data centers and network closet environments, the latest Intelligent Power Manager software now integrates with the VMware® vSphere® 5.5 virtualization platform. With the recent updates, Intelligent Power Manager software is also the first and only power management software to integrate directly with the latest VMware vSphere Web Client.

“Eaton continues leading the way in power management software innovation, providing enhanced business value through collaboration with major converged infrastructure platforms,” said Hervé Tardy, vice president and general manager, Eaton’s Distributed Power Quality Division. “Combining compute, network, software and storage elements, Eaton’s Intelligent Power Manager software allows users to manage their entire power infrastructure remotely and establish an advance power management strategy as the all-important fifth element of converged infrastructure.”

The latest Intelligent Power Manager software solution supports Eaton’s ePDU® third-generation (G3) platform, its newest portfolio of rack power distribution units. With Intelligent Power Manager software, network connected ePDU G3 models offer advanced capabilities that allow users to monitor multiple ePDUs through platforms like VMware vCenter Server™.

This past year, Eaton and CA Technologies announced a collaborative agreement to deliver infrastructure management solutions for data centers. With the latest enhancement, Intelligent Power Manager software includes a menu option that enables users to conveniently launch CA Technologies’ Nimsoft® Remote Management Platform. While many users monitor the data center through Nimsoft, they often manage their networks within the VMware vCenter dashboard. With Intelligent Power Manager software’s seamless integration as a tab within vCenter, the Nimsoft menu option is one more way for Eaton to provide a more efficient view of IT operations.
