Power Distribution Fuse Block Saves Space, Time and Money

February 17, 2014 by Jeff Shepard

Eaton Corp. today announced the introduction of the new power distribution Class J fuse block from its Bussmann business. The fuse block with power distribution capability uses up to 50 percent less panel space and decreases installation time and labor by 33 percent by reducing the number of components required in the circuit. This innovative patented product is available with ratings of 100, 200 and 400 Amps, making it suited for heating, ventilation and air conditioning, micro-grid, distributed-generation, and other applications.

“Our newest solution represents an industry-first, combining a power distribution block with a Class J fuse block to help enhance overall system integrity,” said Darren McDowell, product manager, Eaton’s Bussmann division. “It utilizes safe, reliable technology to help both OEMs and end users save valuable panel space and reduce overall installation cost.”

The new power distribution fuse block is available in 1-, 2- and 3-pole versions with individual pole versions having a dovetail feature that allows point-of-use assembly depending on the number of poles. With a smaller footprint and a 200 kiloamps (kA) withstand rating, the product helps panel builders achieve a higher assembly Short Circuit Current Rating (SCCR) for compliance with National Electric Code® Sections 110.10, 409.22, 440.4(B), 670.3(A)(4) and 670.5. In addition, products offer a voltage (V) rating of 600V, as well as a Class J fuse amperage (A) range of 70-400A.

To help enhance safety, products offer optional finger-safe, see-through covers, an Ingress Protection 20-rating that includes lockout/tagout capabilities and open circuit indication. In addition, all power distribution fuse blocks are Underwriters Laboratories (UL) recognized to E14853 – IZLT2, CSA certified to 47235 – 6225-01, with covers UL Listed to E58836 – JDVS2.
