PKJ family of dc/dc converters

November 07, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Ericsson Energy Systems (Sweden) announced it has extended the PKJ family of dc/dc converters with nine new models offering 15A, 20A and 30A ratings in both 2.5V and 5V versions, and 75W, 100W and 150W at 12V. According to Ericsson, full power is guaranteed at up to 100 degrees C case temperature. Although no heatsink is required, an optional heatsink is available to provide flexibility in meeting low airflow, high ambient temperature or extended reliability requirements. Proprietary control circuits, planar magnetics and synchronous rectification topology are combined with an advanced low-resistivity multiplayer pcb to produce a design delivering full power across the wide ETSI input voltage range of 36V to 72V. The company claims the MTBF is rated at 3 million hours. The models also include input under-voltage protection to avoid deep discharge of batteries, and built-in thermal protection should the case exceed +110 degrees C. The device also has a load transient recovery time of 50us and only 75mV peak-to-peak ripple. The PKJ meets IEC 68-2 environmental conditions, as well as complying with EN 60 950 and UL 1950 safety standards. In quantities of 500, pricing for the 150W (30A) model is under $100 each, and $76 each for the 75W (20A) versions.
