PFC Engineering Releases SBA Series of Automatic Capacitor Modules

May 23, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

PFC Engineering (UK) has released its SBA Series automatic capacitor modules. Based on the technologies of preceding capacitor modules, the new products retain features such as self-healing capacitors and soft switching contactors. PFC's technical department can design modules to suit an individual customer's required dimensions and ratings. The modular capacitor trays can be interconnected with minimal wiring requirements, and the desired kVAr rating can be built up in step sizes, as dictated by a customer's requirements.

The capacitor module consists of the requisite number of individual capacitor elements, which are manufactured from metallized polypropylene or metallized paper and plastic film. Each one incorporates a fail-safe protection device and both the control and main power capacitor modules are individually fused. The company claims that the SBA Series limits capacitor losses to 0.5W/kVAr.

The capacitors feature a full-term current overload of twice the nominal current rating. Additionally, the SBA Series automatic capacitor modules have a temperature range of -40 to 50 degrees C for installation within panels and switchboards. All modules are manufactured to comply with relevant standards of IEC 931, BS 1650 and VDE 0560.
