ON Semiconductor Releases the MAC16HC Series of Thyristors

June 11, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

ON Semiconductor LLC (Phoenix, AZ) released two new series of bi-directional triac thyristors for full-wave ac control, consumer, appliance and industrial applications. The MAC16HC Series offers high-noise immunity at 750V per microsecond and an on-state current rating of 16A RMS at 80 degrees C. The series is aimed at applications that require full-wave, silicon-gate-controlled devices.

The MAC997 Series is a group of sensitive gate triacs equipped with low trigger currents of 3mA and 5mA. The series offers a minimum off-state voltage rise rate (dV/dt) of 20V per microsecond to boost reliability in switching applications to be directly driven by a microcontroller. Additionally, the series has a blocking voltage of 400V or 600V and a high surge current of 8A, which increases the traics' ability to withstand large current transients.

The company's MAC16HC Series is a new generation of triacs that offer snubberless design and can handle inductive loads such as in motor, heater and large solenoid-control applications. They are housed in the industry-standard TO-220AB package and can provide a minimum off-state voltage rise rate (dV/dt) of 750V per microsecond. The series offers a blocking voltage range of 400V through 800V and is aimed at motor controls, heating controls and ac-control applications. The snubberless feature does not require external snubber components and simplifies the board layout.
