May 02, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Nidec America Corp. (Canton, MA) debuted the new Widebody brushless dc cooling fans, which the company claims provides 17 percent more airflow than other fans without claiming additional space. The new TA600DC models from Nidec deliver 350cfm from 2.2-inch-wide housings and operate at static pressures of up to 1.1inwg.

The large-format fans maintain constant operating speeds over segments of 3:1 operating voltage ranges, centered on 12V, 24V or 48V. The fans feature built-in speed stability designed to eliminate the need to over-specify parts. Alarm and tachometer circuits, and thermal speed control options are available on all the new models as is built-in interactive control circuitry. The fans are available in round or straight-sided formats. Both package styles have one-piece, die-cast metal housings and one-piece UL94V-0-rated thermoplastic impellers.

Standard features include reverse polarity protection, permanently lubricated ball bearings, color-coded 12-inch leads or quick-disconnect power-tab terminals, and an operating temperature range of -10 to 70 degrees C.

The TA600DC fans are priced from $44.00 each in lots of 1,000 units. Production quantity lead time is 12 weeks ARO.
