MOSFET-based Modules for Motor Drives up to 100W

May 25, 2017 by Jeff Shepard

STMicroelectronics has extended its offering of intelligent power modules with the introduction of the MOSFET-based SLLIMM-nano devices (1A and 2A current rating at 25 degrees C, with 500V breakdown voltage). The low MOSFET on-resistance (3.6Ω and 1.7Ω, in 2A and 1A variants, respectively) combined with low switching losses ensure high overall energy efficiency and reduced cost.

They target applications up to 100W, such as compressors, pumps, fans and other low power motor drives working up to 20kHz in hard-switching circuitries.

The new devices are available in zig-zag lead and in line-lead package options giving designers extra flexibility to simplify the board layout and minimize controller size in mechatronic assemblies and other space-constrained applications.

ST’s intelligent power modules (IPMs) provide a direct connection between a low-voltage microcontroller and a mains-powered electric motor. They greatly reduce costs by simplifying design and significantly reducing component count while saving space, improving reliability and lowering EMI. Available in several package options (fully molded and DBC), current ratings and driving options, they feature the best compromise between conduction and switching losses, along with outstanding robustness and EMI behavior.
