Morey Introduces a Smart Lighting Controller for Vehicle Applications

January 27, 2013 by Jeff Shepard

The Morey Corporation has introduced the "Smart Lighting Controller" (SLC), a solid-state lighting controller for 12V or 24V vehicle electrical systems. SLC provides true "smart" power distribution and control. SLC replaces relays, fuses, and type I, II and III circuit breakers. SLC offers diagnostics and potential for prognostics by providing voltage, short and current monitoring and eliminates the need for switches between loads (via J1939). The SLC will decrease the overall weight of the vehicle by reducing and simplifying wiring and harness schemes.

The SLC receives positive input power (12V or 24V source) and is controlled via J1939 CAN2.0B bus. Ten 10 Amp outputs (listed in literature) are controlled by CAN2.0B bus messages at the voltage derived from the input power source via a command/response message format. For Hazards, all outputs will be flash synchronized. Each 10 Amp outputs is monitored and protected against short circuits. If a short is detected, outputs will be turned off and a CAN2.0B fault message will be sent.

The SLC is designed for ease of integration and includes the following features: Discrete I/O for drop in replacement for current and new electrical systems; Legacy retrofit for non-multiplexed systems; J1939 control and diagnostics for new and legacy systems; 12V or 24V systems; and Data Bus: J1939 or any compliant CAN2.0B bus.

SLC is part of the Power Distribution family of modules and is available for customization.
