Minebea Unveils New SD241U Server Power Rack

July 10, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

NMB Minebea GmbH (UK) unveiled its new SD241U server power rack, which features the Phoenix Series of power supplies that are specified for server use in an n+1 configuration, enabling system redundancy and continuity of service to be easily implemented.

A maximum of four power supplies are capable of parallel operation and offer a maximum output power of 1,200W. All OR-ing devices are integral with the power supply, necessitating only the minimum of logic functions to be implemented on the system backplane. Appropriate current sharing is employed to parallel the main output voltages. Hot-swap technology is implemented so that the ac power cord is removed for unit insertion or removal.

Phoenix is optimized to allow quiet system operation using advanced fan control compliant with the standard PC98 interface. E2PROM unit identification is also included for automated system inventory. The modules offer a wide-range input of 90Vac to 264Vac with wide-ranging, active power-factor correction, and are tested for ambient temperatures up to 50 degrees C.
