Microsemi Starts Shipping GaAs Semiconductors

April 02, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Microsemi Corp. (Santa Ana, CA) announced that it has begun shipping its first gallium arsenide semiconductors three months ahead of plan. The company originally forecast that it would not see revenue from its new compound semiconductor technology until June, 2001. Initial orders are for the InGaAs/InP photodetectors Microsemi introduced in December, 2000. They will be used in dense wavelength division multiplexing optical transponder applications.

“Now, we are starting to actualize the potential from our investments in compound semiconductors," stated Jim Peterson, president and CEO of Microsemi. “We're especially pleased by the early progress of our diversity into several new compound semiconductor products. They will both round out our product offering and enhance our strategy for providing system-engineered solutions. Coupled with Microsemi's advanced packaging, we envision strong acceptance of these advanced, next-generation compound semiconductor products."
