January 03, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Micro Linear Corp. (San Jose, CA) announced two new chips that generate the high voltage (up to 2,000V) that powers the cold-cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) that backlight liquid crystal displays (LCDs). The ML4877 is intended for higher power applications (up to 30W of light output), such as flat-panel LCD displays in desktop personal computers.

The ML4878 is targeted for lower power (up to 2.5W) LCD displays in consumer and industrial applications such as automobiles, avionics, copy machines, ATM terminals, game displays, test equipment, process controls and factory equipment.

The ML4877 is priced at $2.25 for a 20-pin SSOP in quantities of 1,000. The ML4878 is priced at $2.17 for a 14-pin SOIC in quantities of 1,000.
