Micrel Offers New Family Of Single Supply LDOs With Input Voltages As Low As 1.65V

June 26, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Micrel Inc. has introduced the MIC6910x/15x/30x, a new family of very low voltage linear regulators. The devices are part of a new high-current, single supply LDO family that operates from an input voltage as low as 1.65V. Aimed at the industrial, medical, communications, computing and consumer markets, the devices are targeted at servers/routers, computing peripherals, LCD/Plasma TV and industrial/medical point-of-load applications.

"The MIC69xxx family provides the best performance combination of input and output voltage ranges, dropout voltage and output current options available from Micrel today," noted Andy Cowell, Micrel’s Marketing Vice President for Power Products. "This family of LDOs has been designed to address the industry-wide trend to move to lower voltage rails. By offering differing current levels, mixed with a range of packages, these LDOs are suitable for a wide variety of applications."

The MIC6910x/15x/30x series features single supply operation, from 5.5V down to as low as 1.65V, with +/- 1% initial output accuracy. The devices are described as extremely stable with ceramic capacitors and are available in currents ranging up to 3A for the MIC69301/2, 1.5A for the MIC69151/3 and 1A for the MIC69101/3. These ICs are said to give designers the flexibility of different current options while offering a cost savings by reducing the required number of external components. These linear regulators are also said to feature excellent line and load regulation and logic controlled shutdown and protection features such as thermal shutdown and current limit. In addition to enhanced power handling capability/ reliability, the devices come in thermally-enhanced packages e-Pad SO-8, MLF® and S-PAK.

The ICs are currently available in volume quantities, with pricing starting at $1.13 for 1K quantities.
