Mica Grid Resistors Offer Improved Power Capacity, Weight & Density

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has introduced a new series of high-power, high-current mica grid resistors in the standard mill bank size. Offering designers a lower cost option to the standard stainless steel grid design, Vishay Milwaukee GREM resistors feature EDG technology for improvements in power capacity, weight, and watt density, while maintaining the same package size.

The devices released today feature power of 8kW at 40°C, which is 23% higher than standard 6500W stainless steel grid resistors in the standard mill bank size. At the same time, GREM devices are 30% lighter than stainless steel grid resistors with the same power dissipation, and offer a favorable price point.

These specifications make the devices suitable for load banks, dynamic braking, and motor control in low vibration industrial and alternative energy applications.

GREM resistors feature a resistance range from 0.067Ω to 24.273Ω, with a tolerance of ±10%, temperature coefficients down ±130ppm/°C, and currents from 18A to 345A. The devices offer high temperature operation to +415°C.

Samples and production quantities of the GREM series are available now, with lead times of four weeks.
