Metallized Polypropylene Film DC-Link Capacitors are Environment-Friendly

April 16, 2014 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today introduced a new environmentally friendly metallized polypropylene film capacitor for dc-link applications that offers a broad capacitance range of 1 to 500 microfarads, compact footprints, and voltage ratings from 500V to 1200V. With its high capacitance per volume and a very long life of over 100,000 hours at +70 degrees C under nominal dc voltage, the economical MKP1848C is optimized for industrial power applications, including renewable energy inverters, motor drives, and power supplies.

The DC-link capacitor features low ESR down to 1.5 milliohm, low self-inductance of less than 1 nH per mm of lead spacing, high peak current capabilities up to 1560A, high rms current up to 55A, and a capacitance density up to 1 microfarad per cubic centimeter. The MKP1848C capacitor can be tailored to meet customer-specific needs.

Offered in a flame-retardant plastic case with a resin seal, the device has a maximum operating temperature of +105 degrees C and is RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green. (The Vishay Green designation means that a component has less than 900 ppm of antinomy, has less than 100 ppm of red phosphorous, is halogen-free, and is RoHS-compliant without exemptions.) Samples and production quantities of the MKP1848C are available now.
