MCE Newmarket Launches New Range of Semi-Custom Solid-State Switches

May 08, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

MCE Newmarket (UK) has launched a new range of semi-custom solid-state switches designed to handle kilowatt-level powers at up to 600V. The approach taken is analogous to a semi-custom ASIC, where the building blocks are proven and manufactured, awaiting only a final interconnection layer. The building blocks being developed by MCE include matched transistor modules, sense resistors, isolating transformers, programmable ASICs, high-heat conduction substrates and high-current packaging.

MCE Newmarket claims that the switch is usually significantly smaller than off-the-shelf alternatives. The semi-custom approach permits switches to meet a range of specifications including shape, size, connection, speed and temperature range. It allows the switch to be matched to the electrical, thermal and mechanical requirements of the system.
