Maxwell Technologies (San Diego) and Duracell (Bethel, CT) have signed a business collaboration agreement in which the two companies will jointly identify opportunities with key original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to combine Maxwell's PowerCache ultracapacitor technology with Duracell ULTRA Alkaline batteries. According to the companies, the combination of these two technologies promises to significantly extend battery life and deliver superior peak power performance in many devices, particularly those with high pulse discharge requirements such as flash and digital cameras, telecommunications products and personal digital assistants with communications features."Duracell is an ideal strategic partner for Maxwell in the marketing of ultracapacitors to major device manufacturers," said Tom Horgan, chief executive officer, Maxwell Technologies. "This alliance provides an exceptional opportunity for Maxwell to demonstrate its ultracapacitors' unique advantages for many applications in consumer electronics, telecommunications and other markets."Mark McGough, president of Maxwell's Advance Energy Products division noted that the PowerCache ultracapacitor was developed specifically for high power. He characterized it as "an on-board turbo-charger for new power-hungry devices."
