Maxim Debuts the New MAX5900/5901 Hot-Swap Controllers

July 31, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Maxim Integrated Products (Sunnyvale, CA) has completed development of the MAX5900/MAX5901 hot-swap controllers. These devices operate from -9V to -100V, and eliminate all external components except an external n-channel MOSFET. They are suitable for application in telecom line cards, network switches, network routers, servers and base-station line cards.

The MAX5900/MAX5901 limit the inrush current to the load and provide a circuit-breaker function for over-current protection.

The MAX5900/MAX5901 also include an under-voltage lock-out function, an ON/OFF-bar control input and a power-good status output. A built-in thermal shutdown feature is also included.

The MAX5900/MAX5901 offer latched or auto-retry fault management and are available with 200mV, 300mV or 400mV circuit-breaker thresholds. Both the MAX5900 and MAX5901 are available in small SOT23 packages, and are specified for the extended -40 to 85 degrees C temperature range.
