April 07, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

M/A-COM Inc. (Lowell, MA), a business unit of Tyco Electronics and a provider of wireless radio frequency (RF), microwave and millimeter wave components, announced its new lead-free, low-loss, SPDT GaAs switch, the MASWSS0115, which provides low-loss switching for the transmit/receive function in 802.11b wireless local area network applications, and for low-power, general-purpose, RF applications in a small SOT-363 (six-lead, SC-70) package. The MASWSS0115 may be used for other low- and medium-power switching applications from dc to 3 GHz.

The MASWSS0115 is suitable for low-power handset and basestation applications. The MASWSS0115 provides switching of the RF common port between two additional RF ports. Both switches come in a small SOT-363 package for a easier transition to lead-free. The switches also work with positive control voltages as low as 2.3 V, provide low insertion loss (0.35 dB at 2.4 GHz), good VSWR (1.1:1 typical) and good isolation (>20 dB).

The new MASWSS0115 switch, and corresponding sample test boards, are available for immediate delivery. The MASWSS0115 is priced at <$0.18 each in quantities of 50,000, and is available on 3,000-piece reels.
