LTC Offers LT3150 LDO Regulator Controller

September 24, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) announced the LT3150, a low input voltage, very low dropout (VLDO) linear regulator controller in an SSOP-16 package that drives a low-cost, external, n-channel MOSFET to attain dropout voltages as low as 150mV at output currents as high as 10A.

The LT3150 includes an internal, fixed-frequency, boost regulator to provide gate drive for the external MOSFET from input voltages as low as 1.3V (or down to 0.9V with minor circuit modifications). Since the boost regulator runs at a constant frequency of 1.4MHz, it utilizes tiny external components, keeping the overall LT3150 solution footprint small. The external, n-channel MOSFET RDS(on) determines the dropout voltage of the device. The LT3150 maintains a +2 percent accuracy over all line, load and temperature conditions, combining the benefits of low input-voltage operation, VLDO performance, precision regulation and fast transient response.

The LT3150 is available from stock in a 16-lead, SSOP-16 package. Pricing starts at $3.70 each for 1,000-piece quantities.
