LTC Intros New LTC4440 N-Channel MOSFET

October 23, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) introduced the LTC4440, a 100V transient, tolerant high-side, n-channel MOSFET driver with powerful gate drivers that minimize switching losses in power supplies. Housed in ThinSOT™ (SOT-23) and eight-lead MSOP packages, the IC's 80V (100V transient) operation, peak pull-up output current of 2.4A, and 1.5Ohm pull-down output impedance make it suitable for driving high-gate capacitance, high-voltage, high-current standard threshold MOSFETs.

The IC improves the efficiency and output power capability of a dc/dc converter by reducing MOSFET gate drive fall and rise times to 7ns and 10ns, respectively, when driving 1,000pF loads. The LTC4440 improves power supply performance in 48V telecom systems as well as distributed power systems in industrial and automotive applications. The LTC4440 features supply-independent TTL/CMOS compatible input thresholds. The IC contains both high-side and low-side under-voltage lockout circuits that disable and protect the external MOSFET when activated.

The LTC4440 is rated for extended temperature range operation from -40°C to +85°C ambient. Pricing starts at $1.75 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
