Leclanché gets Trineuron gains System Integration Capabilities

August 05, 2015 by Jeff Shepard

Leclanché has increased its system expertise and its vertical integration of storage technology from cell manufacturing to complete system design and manufacturing with the acquisition of Trineuron. This acquisition will allow Leclanché to increase its offering in terms of battery management systems (BMS) and module design for demanding transport applications. The acquisition of Trineuron also brings a team of 10 experienced engineers and an existing sales backlog and pipeline. Leclanché continues to position itself as one of the few companies manufacturing and offering multiple chemistries and multiple system designs.

Trineuron, a business unit of the Belgian company Emrol, is active in the design and manufacturing of lithium ion storage systems mainly for transport applications and with a strong focus on the use of lithium Titanate technology. The development capability of Leclanché will be greatly increased with the addition of these competences, and in particular in the field of transport applications such as electric/hybrid buses, ferries, mining vehicles, AGVs (automated guided vehicles), etc. Trineuron has a large number of existing customers in transport applications, in particular for AGVs and has a significant sales pipeline.

The commercial activities will be integrated within the Leclanché Transport Business Unit, while engineering will be integrated within the System Development Team. As part of the acquisition process, Stefan Louis, Managing Director of Trineuron, will be joining the executive committee of Leclanché in the role of Chief Strategy Officer. The acquisition is in the form of a share deal whereby the company acquires a subsidiary of Emrol against payment of 410,000 Leclanché shares.

This acquisition is expected to allow for a product cost reduction and an increase in Leclanché’s competitiveness, along with a stronger market position by increasing the product offerings and expanding its storage system design expertise. Leclanché will continue to build its industry leadership in quality and performance and further position itself as the complete energy storage solution provider.

Anil Srivastava, CEO of Leclanché, commented, ”We are very happy to be able to announce this important advancement in our company’s continued growth, which is fully in line with our previously communicated strategy. Trineuron has a very complementary technology to Leclanche’s current business and brings a strong sales footprint in our target markets. They will provide a strong reinforcement of our storage system offerings and advance the vertical integration of our storage solution technology. By adding the development capability for transport solutions from Trineuron, Leclanché increases its depth as an integrated storage solution provider for industrial applications.”
