Leadership Council Formed to Commercialize Safe Li-ion Architecture

September 06, 2018 by Paul Shepard

Soteria Battery Innovation Group (BIG) has formed a Leadership Council of leading industrial companies to guide the commercialization of its safe lithium ion battery architecture.  Members include Delfort, Domtar, DNV-GL, DuPont, Enerdel, Glatfelter, Ingevity, K2 Energy, Nasa, Novelis, Spectra Power, Teijin and Voith.

With these members, the Soteria BIG Leadership Council draws on world class expertise in advanced materials, specialty nonwovens, lithium ion batteries and lithium ion battery safety.

Additional members of the consortium include Mercedes-Benz, Crown Battery, Cellergy, ADA Technologies, Cornell Dubilier, The Korean Institute of Energy Research, One2Many, Solzen Energy, ADA Technologies, Teledyne Technologies and Rolled-Ribbon Batteries.

The Consortium is open to new members including test labs, advanced materials companies, battery manufacturers, and OEMs who make products that use batteries.

The Soteria BIG Leadership Council will guide three primary activities, including:

  • Cooperative Development: Open development by the consortium members to mature and commercialize Soteria's new, safe architecture for lithium ion batteries
  • Supply Chain: Set up an appropriately broad supply chain of licensees of the technology, ensuring global access while retaining profitability for licensees.
  • Standards Development: Develop aggressive safety standards that highlight the architecture's enhanced safety, and allow access and ensure appropriate use of the brand and logo associated with cells that can pass these aggressive safety standards.

The Soteria BIG Leadership Council will guide these activities to ensure the broadest possible adoption of the technology, delivering the maximum safety to the most consumers.

As lithium ion batteries proliferate from our computers to our wrists and our homes and our cars, battery fires will cost lives and cause much suffering.  "It is our goal to make sure that not one life is lost due to either ignorance of or lack of access to our technology," said Brian Morin, CEO of Soteria BIG.

Soteria Battery Innovation Group Inc is an advanced technology development and licensing company that has formed a consortium to promote a light, safe and cost-effective architecture for lithium ion batteries.
