Lambda Intros NV-175 Power Supply

July 15, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Lambda Electronics Inc. (San Diego, CA) introduced its NV-175, a 175 W quad-output power supply that delivers a 9.36 W/in³ in an industry-standard 3 in x 5 in footprint, up to 90% efficiency and EMC performance. Part of Lambda’s new "no compromise" NV Power Series of high-density, environmentally friendly, ac-dc power supplies, the NV-175 is suitable for space-constrained instrumentation, broadcast, medical and high-end IT systems.

At the heart of the NV-175 is Lambda’s patented multiple resonant topology, which uniquely uses synchronous rectification to achieve the supply’s high efficiency and allows significantly reduced power loss without compromising size for power. The NV-175 measures 3 in x 5 in x 1.25 in, and weighs about 8 oz. The simple open-frame construction and lack of power components on the underside of the board make the unit easy to cool.

The new power supply provides between one and four outputs, available initially from 0.9 V to 15 V, and currents up to 25 A. The NV-175 has no minimum load requirements and is available with a high-power, fifth-output (rated at 5 V, 2 A) as a standby. Remote on/off and power-good signals are also available. The NV-175 will be available in July priced at $148 each in small quantities.
