Lambda Intros New Version of 1,000W Alpha Power Supply

February 25, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Lambda (UK) has introduced a new single-output version of its 1,000W Alpha. Three configurations are available, delivering a choice of 40A at 24V, 83A at 12V or 200A at 5V. The single-output can be tailored to exactly match the user's output voltage requirement via a multi-turn potentiometer with an accuracy to within one percent. Load regulation is less than 0.5 percent with remote sensing and better than 2 percent without remote sensing. Over-current and over-voltage protection are fitted as standard.

With an input operating voltage range of 90Vac to 264Vac, 120Vdc to 360Vdc, and an input frequency of 47Hz to 63Hz, the Alpha 1000 has a start-up time of less than 0.5 seconds. Thermal protection is fitted as standard and input protection is in accordance with EN61000-4-2/4/5 level 3.

Cooling is provided by two 60mm fans. The new power supply has built-in power factor correction and harmonic correction in accordance with EN61000-3-2. A wide range of options is available including power good, ac fail, paralleling and power supply inhibit.
