Lambda Electronics Launches the PC and PV Series DC/DC Converters
Lambda Electronics Inc. (San Diego, CA) has expanded its family of dc/dc converters with two new low-power models, the PC and PV Series. With compact footprints, the converters feature a 500Vac input-output isolation rating and over-current protection. The PC and PV modules also feature adjustable output voltages, providing greater flexibility in typical distributed-power applications such as telecommunications, data communications, instrumentation and microprocessor-based systems.
The new 3.3V models are designed with low-voltage microprocessor applications in mind. Both the PV and PC Series offer 3.3V to 15V single-output models and ±12V or ±15V dual-output models, with full power operation up 50 degrees C. The units derate to 50 percent maximum output power at 70 degrees C. Only natural convection cooling is required to achieve specified operating temperature ratings.
The PV Series, from 1.5W to 3W, features a single in-line package and accepts dc inputs of 5V, 12V, 24V and 48V. According to Lambda, the product operates up to full output power without an external heatsink, minimizing board space where component height is critical. Ranging in size from 1.12" x 0.91" x 0.33" (for the 1.5W model) to 1.29" x 0.91" x 0.33" (for the 3W model), the PV Series, like the PC Series, provides miniature power solutions for limited space applications. The low profile PC Series, for 1.5W to 6W, also accepts dc inputs of 5V, 12V, 24V and 48V.
Like the PV Series, the PC module operates up to full output power without an external heatsink. Other features include remote on/off (6W models), EMI shielding, an integral input fuse and a compact size ranging from 1.10" x 0.31" x 0.63" (for the 1.5W models) to 1.61" x 0.33" x 1.02" (for the 6W models).
The PC Series modules are easy to install because they require no external components, claims Lambda. Pricing starts at $9.50 for the 1.5W PV Series units and $10.25 for the 1.5W PC Series units in OEM quantities. They are available from stock to eight weeks.
