Lambda Electronics Announces Research Project

February 10, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Lambda Electronics (Melville, NY) recently announced it has been chosen by Rockwell (Milwaukee, WI) and the US Navy Office of Naval Research (Arlington, VA) to take part in a research project to develop three distinct point-of-use power-conversion technologies for broad commercial and defense applications. Lambda will work with the program to commercialize power-supply innovation for personal computer and other consumer applications.

The $8.0 million project will span two years and will operate under the Joint Services Dual-Use Science and Technology Program and the Office of Naval Research Power Electronics Building Blocks Program.

According to Lambda, the three technologies being addressed include a standard cell-based design and manufacturing approach for solid-state motor drives, multi-function power converters for distributed power systems in aircraft, and extremely high-efficiency dc/dc power converters.

"We are looking forward to the challenge and opportunities of this research project," said Keith Hopwood, director of marketing and research and development.
