KSR Acquires Wales-based Manufacturer of MOSFET Power Modules

July 24, 2014 by Jeff Shepard

KSR International, Inc. has acquired Electronic Motion Systems an automotive power electronics supplier with manufacturing based in Swansea, Wales and a development center in Halifax, Nova Scotia, said Craig Arnold, KSR President & CEO. Terms of the deal between the privately held companies were not released. The purchase of EMS boosts KSR's world-wide employment base to slightly more than 1,700 associates.

KSR, in business for nearly 75 years, provides bumper-to-bumper electronic sensors, as well as pedal assemblies, to the global automotive industry. The purchase of EMS brings to KSR specific expertise in engineering and manufacturing of control modules for EHPS and EPS Steering Systems, MOSFET power modules and modules used for cabin climate control systems, engine cooling systems and alternator voltage regulators.

"In addition to new products and customers, EMS adds to the KSR bench strength," Arnold said. "The EMS technical engineering center in Halifax is world-class with a team of electronics engineers that set new standards in control modules across a wider spectrum of uses, not just for automobiles and light trucks, but also all-terrain vehicles and other specialized markets."

Joining KSR immediately from EMS are Rolf Dahlmanns, Managing Director from Swansea and Jim Tompkins, Director of Engineering in Halifax. Arnold said at this point employment levels will remain stable at both KSR and the newly acquired EMS.

"We want to grow our engineering, sales, and manufacturing capabilities in electronics, and leverage our global footprint," Arnold said. "Bringing the EMS team onboard will help us achieve these goals much more rapidly."

Over time, EMS will be completely integrated into KSR and existing KSR customers will have the opportunity to utilize EMS products and engineering expertise. "At the same time, we look forward to introducing the KSR brand and its automotive capabilities to our customers," Dahlmanns said.
