Kollmorgen Debuts the GOLDLINE XT Brushless Servomotor

July 30, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Kollmorgen Corp. (Radford, VA) announced the release of its new high-resolution sine encoder option for the Kollmorgen GOLDLINE XT brushless servomotor. The motor offers high torque density, a proprietary interior magnet design that delivers low cogging and a next-generation motor design. Typical applications are high-speed registration, film coating and web control.

The sine encoder on Kollmorgen's new GOLDLINE XT provides position information to the drive in the form of analog sine/cosine signals. The drive then decodes the sine into a fine resolution to improve velocity control, repeatability, increase system stiffness and reduce position dither. Also, the sine encoder increases feedback accuracy (when compared to a resolver) to allow accurate positioning of the load.

The Kollmorgen GOLDLINE XT family offers a wide range of torque ratings, frame sizes and speeds in a rugged package. Continuous torque ratings range from 1.29N-m to 48.0N-m (0.95lb-ft to 35.4lb-ft) with speeds up to 6,000rpm. The motor's high torque-to-inertia ratio delivers rapid acceleration, while its low-cogging torque ripple offers smooth machine operation.

The Kollmorgen GOLDLINE XT Series is matched with the Servostar digital amplifier family for 230Vac and 480Vac operation.
