IR Offers New Synchronous FETKYs - IRF7807D1 & IRF7807D2

International Rectifier (IR, El Segundo, CA) is offering two new n-channel Synchronous FETKYs which offer a reduced footprint for higher power density. The new 30V Synchronous FETKYs, which combine a HEXFET power MOSFET with an ultra low Vf Schottky diode, are optimized for low-power 3.3V and 5.0V dc/dc converters, such as those in notebook PCs and other portable systems equipment, according to IR. The IRF7807D1 and IRF7807D2 FETKYs are claimed to provide the same efficiency and performance of an equivalent discrete solution while offering a smaller footprint. The IRF7807D1 is housed in an SO-8 package and provides a typical Rds(on) of 17 milliohms at 4.5Vgs for on-state conditions and low Vf of 0.5V at 1A for the Schottky during deadtime conditions. The IRF7807D2 is also available in an SO-8 package, and offers the same on-state performance as the IRF7807D1, but integrates a 3A-rated Schottky with Vf = 0.57V at 3A."With ever-increasing demands being placed upon portable systems like laptops, reducing form factors, saving space, and improving electrical and thermal efficiency are becoming very important system design considerations," stated Carl Smith, product marketing engineer for IR's Processor Power Group. "Our new Synchronous FETKY was designed for application specific low voltage dc/dc applications, and to expand IR's focus on dc/dc conversion solutions. this solution provides a lower component count, a reduced footprint on the circuit board and achieves efficiency parity versus the next best discrete solution."The FETKYs are priced at $0.38 for the IRF7807D1 and $0.43 for the IRF7807D2, in quantities of 100,000.
