IR Intros Three DC/DC Power Management Chipsets

July 18, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier Corp. (IR, El Segundo, CA) announced three dc/dc power-management chipsets optimized to power the Intel Pentium processors for emerging low-power, space-saving, ultra-dense or blade servers. The chipsets provide up to two percent higher efficiency at the 1.1V required by Intel's new processors.

The power-management chipsets consist of three components. The IRU3013 power-management IC and two optimized 30V or 20V HEXFET power MOSFETs. The first chipset combines the IRU3013 with the IRF7811W control FET and the IRF7822 synchronous FET for the 13A to 15A current range. This chipset provides peak efficiencies of up to 91 percent at 1.1Vout and 300kHz.

The second chipset consists of the IRU3013, the IRLR3715 control FET and the IRFR3704 synchronous FET. The second chipset is for designing cost-effective 12V input buck converters in the 13A to 15A range. The third chipset enables a high-efficiency, cost-effective system for the 8A to 10A range. The IRU3013 is combined with the IRF7456 synchronous FET and the IRF7459 control FET.

Samples and production quantities are now available. Pricing starts at $2.44 each for the IRU3013 and $0.90 each for the IRF7456 in 10,000-unit quantities.
