IR Intros New Family of D-Pak Schottky Diodes For Low-Power Systems

February 11, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier (IR, El Segundo, CA) introduced a new family of D-Pak Schottky diodes intended for low-power systems. The diodes are claimed to offer a lower forward-voltage drop from improved power handling capabilities and greater efficiency than competing devices, while maintaining price parity. Nine devices are available, with 3A, 5A and dual 3A (6A) parts each offering voltage/current of 40V, 60V or 100V. The devices offer a maximum junction temperature of 150 degrees C in the small form-factor of the D-Pak. According to IR, the D-Pak devices are ideal for rectification in isolated dc/dc converter modules, power supplies in portable systems, for use as a freewheeling diode for low-power synchronous rectification in portable systems and for reverse polarity protection in battery powered systems. Pricing ranges from $0.37 to $0.54 in quantities of 10,000, depending on the device.
