IR Introduces IRF5803D2 and IRF7342D2 Devices

September 20, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier Corp. (IR, El Segundo, CA) introduced two new p-channel FETKY devices in an SO-8 package. The IRF5803D2 and IRF7342D2 are additions to IR's line of FETKY devices of co-packaged HEXFET power MOSFETs and Schottky diodes.

Co-packaging the MOSFET and Schottky diode in a single SO-8 reduces packaging cost and offers substantial space savings. The two new devices offer up to 60 percent space savings when compared to a discrete solution and are ideal for low-cost buck converter designs used in peripheral applications.

Carl Blake, technical marketing manager for dc/dc products, said, "P-channel FETKY devices do not require a charge pump or a bootstrap capacitor for high-side drive voltage in buck converters, so replacing n-channel control MOSFETs with FETKY devices simplify drive circuits, reducing system cost. The space savings contribute toward smaller, sleeker designs, both major driving factors in products such as desktop printers."

The new IRF5803D2 and IRF7342D2 FETKY devices are in full production now. Pricing is $0.37 each for the IRF5803D2, and $0.46 each for the IRF7342D2 in 10,000-unit quantities.
