IR Announces New IRGB30B60K 600V NPT IGBTs

October 23, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier Corp. (IR, El Segundo, CA) introduced a pair of 600V, 50A, non-punch-through, (NPT) discrete IGBTs for motor drive applications in D2Pak and TO-220. The IGBTs feature a square, reverse bias, safe operating area (RBSOA) and 10µsec short-circuit capability. The new IGBTs are suitable for hard-starting, motor drive applications with high in-rush currents up to 6kW. Typical applications span from vacuum systems to switch reluctance drives and UPS systems.

IR’s thin silicon NPT technology offers lower turn-off energy losses, allowing operation at high frequencies without any increase in conduction losses and reduced thermal resistance. The new devices can operate up to 175°C junction temperature, achieving a maximum current rating of 50A.

The new 600V NPT IGBTs are available immediately. Pricing begins at $0.93 each in 10,000-unit quantities for the IRGB30B60K.
